Montessori Bead Frames are used to represent numbers and math problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). The first two bead frames use the same color pattern as the wooden numbers and tiles to represent place value. The third bead frame does not use the color scheme. The purpose of the bead frames is to gradually move students from concrete representations of numbers and equations (using golden beads) to more abstract representations (using the third, solid colored bead frame). Students will eventually be able to complete these equations without the aid of any tools while still having a firm understanding of the math process.
