Each week, students are given individualized spelling lists. Spelling lists focus on phonics, word families, and spelling patterns. First year students receive words that correlate with the EPS leveled reader they are currently reading. Students are expected to practice their spelling words three times throughout the week. Spelling tests are given on Fridays and any words that are spelled incorrectly are repeated the following week. Students have been shown five ways to practice their spelling words and have the freedom to choose whichever study method they want to use. 1) Build words with wooden letters, mix up letters, and rebuild. 2) Write, Spell, Say, Cover, Write. 3) Roll the Dice Spelling Word Game 4) Write the work with dry-erase markers and trace them with a Q-Tip to erase. 5) Use window markers to write words on a mirror.
